Storage
Knowing where everything is kept is as basic as describing it. The Workspace keeps storage places, the buildings, strongrooms, aisles, bays and shelves, and the containers kept in them, joined to the accessions and units of description they hold.
The screens are under Manage: Storage places (/storage-places) and Containers (/containers).
Storage places
A storage place is a place of a storage place type, such as a building, strongroom, aisle, bay or shelf, nested inside another: a shelf in a bay in an aisle in a strongroom. They are kept apart from the places records are about, and none is public unless someone publishes it.
Each can record:
- its capacity, so you can see how full it is, here and in everything below it;
- its environment: whether it is climate controlled, and its conditions of access.
Containers
A container is a box, folder, binder, map drawer, crate or canister, of a container type from its vocabulary. Create container gives it:
- its label and barcode;
- where it is kept, a storage place;
- its condition and status;
- the units of description and accessions it holds.
Describe container adds what else is known of it: its dimensions, materials and dates.
Finding a container
Scan (/containers/scan) finds a container by its barcode, from a hand scanner or typed in, and opens it. Containers kept nowhere yet lists those not yet given a place.
Lists to print and export
- Box list to print: what a container holds, to put inside it.
- Holdings as CSV: every container with where it is and what it holds.
Labels
Container and shelf labels with barcodes and QR codes are printed from label templates; see Labels.
Storage is collection management, not description, so none of it is exported as RiC-O. It stays in the Workspace for the institution's own use.
