The system breakdown

The system breakdown, at /help/system-breakdown, answers a different question from the system map. The map follows a record through the Workspace; the breakdown lists what the Workspace does for each kind of entity it describes.

It reads in four levels:

  1. the Workspace;
  2. the kinds of entity: units of description, authority records, repositories, accessions, vocabularies and researchers;
  3. an aspect of each, such as its description, relations, instantiations, rights, preservation or publication;
  4. what that aspect holds, such as the identity area of a description, the names of an authority record, or the PREMIS events of a file.

Open a level to see the next. Each node that a guide explains links to it.

Good to know

Read down a branch as a sentence: the Workspace describes units of description, whose rights hold the rights in force and the requests for access. It is the quickest way to see whether the Workspace keeps something before you go looking for the screen.

Like the map, it is a list of capabilities, not of permissions, and it is kept as data in resources/help/system-breakdown.php.
